How to Choose a Laser Welder: Power, Thickness and Cooling
Choosing power by material thickness, air versus water cooling, the benefit of a wire feeder and safety: what to check before buying a laser welder.

When choosing a laser welder, the first figure people look at is usually wattage. The right choice actually starts with your material thickness, your workplace and how continuously the machine will run.
1. Material thickness
Power determines the thickness that can be welded. These are the manufacturer figures for the models in our catalogue:
| Model | Power | Thickness | Cooling | Housing |
| Lazer Center Kompakt | 800 W | 0.5–2 mm | Air | Portable |
| Lazer Center Kompakt | 1200 W | 0.5–3 mm | Air | Portable |
| Maven MLA-W-A09 | 1200 W | 0.5–3 mm | Water (chiller) | Trolley |
| Maven MLA-W-A09 | 1500 W | 1–4 mm | Water (chiller) | Trolley |
| Maven MLA-W-A09 | 2000 W | 1–5 mm | Water (chiller) | Trolley |
Choose by the thickness you work with most. Power you do not need is an extra cost: if your work is material up to 2 mm, you may not need 2000 W. Actual results also depend on the material and settings, so test on your own material if possible.
2. Air or water cooling?
- Air cooling: no separate chiller, so the machine is compact and easy to move. It suits jobs that change location often.
- Water cooling (chiller): the machine is larger and comes on a trolley. It suits a fixed workplace or workshop.
3. Do you need a wire feeder?
Gaps between parts and corner seams need extra material. The Maven MLA-W-A09 series has an automatic wire feeder designed for such joints.
4. Safety
A laser beam can seriously harm eyes and skin. The operator must wear suitable laser safety glasses and clothing, the work area must be protected from bystanders, and ventilation must deal with welding fumes. Read the manufacturer's instructions before starting the machine.
What about cleaning?
Removing rust, paint, oil and oxide is different work and needs a separate machine. For this our catalogue has the air-cooled Maven MLA-CL-P300 300 W pulse machine. You can see all models in the laser equipment section.
